Extended Warranty For Certain Products

Extended Warranty For Certain Products

Have you ever been in the process of checking out at the register with your new expensive electronics purchase, only to have the clerk put you on the spot by asking if you want to purchase an extended warranty for the device? Sometimes, these warranties can be very expensive, and you might not know if it’s actually a good idea or not. This is especially true because some stores offer protection plans on relatively minor items, which might make you worry that there’s something you don’t know that you should regarding the device you’re purchasing. If you’ve ever been unsure about purchasing a warranty at the point of sale, or if you’ve spent hours and hours trying to decide whether or not it’s worth it when making an online purchase, don’t worry. There are a number of simple things you should keep in mind that will help you decide whether or not an extended warranty is worth it, and when you should opt for one.

Store Warranties Aren’t Usually Worth It

Some Stores Offer Good Warranties For Their Products

Chances are, if the store you’re shopping at is the one who is offering a protection plan, you shouldn’t take it. These plans are often very expensive and don’t actually cover as much as the clerks will claim they do. For example, most store protection plans only guard against a very small number of damage types, and they will usually void the claim if the damage or defect falls outside of the range of their very narrow terms. These plans are basically free money for the store, and you should avoid actually agreeing to purchase plans at the register. However, if the manufacturer of a device itself offers an extended warranty, such as while making an online purchase or otherwise buying directly from them, then you’ll find these are often much better deals. Manufacturers want to create good will between their company and their customers, and ensuring that their device users have a satisfactory experience is of great importance to them. Their warranties will usually cover most of the problems you could expect to encounter.

Will the Device Have a Long Lifespan or Heavy Use?

Are you planning on buying a device such as a laptop or an expensive MP3 player? If you’re planning on getting a device that you’ll be using for quite a long time, or if you intend to be using it quite regularly (such as a computer for college), then buying an extended warranty is usually a good idea. You never know when something might go wrong with your device a year or two after you buy it, and you don’t want to be stuck having to replace it immediately. An extended warranty will let you continue to use your device throughout its lifespan safely.

Safeguard Your Expensive Purchases

Who wants to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on an expensive item of technology only to have something terrible happen to it six months later? Extended warranties are almost a necessity for any large purchases that you make where such an offer is available. You can give yourself incredible peace of mind simply by paying a little bit extra to make sure that your device can be replaced in the case of an accident or a defect that takes months to manifest. Don’t be left out in the cold when your expensive device fails and your only option is to replace it.

Posting A Job Does Not Have To Break The Bank

Posting A Job Does Not Have To Break The Bank

When you’re searching for the right candidate to fill a position, deciding where to actually list the job can be confusing. Although there are the age-old go-to sites like Monster.com and even Craigslist, these days it’s more efficient to choose any one of the specialized sites out there that cater to specific fields. For example, Idealist.org is a site that offers jobs in all fields specifically to applicants working in the not-for-profit world. However, the drawback to having so many sites to choose from is that, many times, you have to pay for the listing. Although this cost might be negligible in the grand scheme of things, it adds up quickly when you’re trying to post the listing across many different sites. Here are three money saving tips that will make your job search more cost efficient.

Mailing Lists and Industry Associations

Target the Right People For Your Job Opening

Target the Right People For Your Job Opening

Rather than starting with a mainstream job listing site that will attract applicants you’ve never heard of, start with posting the job to small mailing lists you might be on and different professional association discussion groups. This is a good way to keep your search small and focused, and not be overwhelmed with resumes pouring in every day. Given that the job market all around the world is currently scarce, there are many qualified people looking for work. If you want to start on a smaller and more interconnected scale, sending a group e-mail or making a post on an association forum is a good way to get the attention of a few people. You can also ask your fellow association members to pass the word on to their own colleagues.

Ask for Referrals for Candidates

In addition to asking colleagues to pass the word on, don’t forget to ask them for suggestions, too. This is especially useful if you’re in a specialized field and there’s only a small pool of qualified candidates. However, whether you work in a narrow or broad field, nothing can replace the dependability of a glowing review from someone you know. A candidate’s resume may read like a dream, with a list of impressive accomplishments, the perfect skills, and impeccable scholastic achievements. However, that person may simple not be the right fit for the position. Depend on your own connections to know your company and who you’re looking for, and let them guide you toward potential candidates.

Transitioning Internships into Employment

Observe How Your Candidate Interact With Others

Observe How Your Candidate Interact With Others

Internships are a great way to test out someone new. It’s also acceptable to make clear at the beginning of an internship that there’s the possibility of a permanent job if it works out. This is great incentive for an intern to do a top notch job, but it also gives you a chance to see how the person interacts with their work environment at no cost to you. However, you might consider offering a standard intern stipend to attract more discerning candidates. This type of position is ideal for a college student nearing the end of their degree, or someone who’s about to transition into a different phase in their professional life. You can also make it competitive by hosting more than one intern and seeing how it goes. Not only will have the opportunity to observe how each intern interacts with your staff, but also how each person handles pressure and competition. You want an employee who can maintain amicable working relationships, even when competing for rewards, and there’s no truer test than seeing someone’s working style in action.

She Should Be The Focus Of Your Attention

She Should Be The Focus Of Your Attention

When a woman wants you to hang out with her friends, it’s always a good sign. However, there is a certain etiquette that you must stick to when interacting with her friends to keep her from getting upset with you. Chatting with her friends can be fun, but if you’re not careful it can also cause her to think that you’re more interested in her friends than her. There are some topics that you should absolutely avoid when her friends are concerned. You also don’t want to get too close to them, or tell them about certain things that you were reluctant to tell her (or still haven’t told her yet). Most importantly, always make sure that she knows that you enjoy spending time with her more than you enjoy spending time with her friends.

Make Sure You Avoid Flirting Even If It’s Harmless

Do Not Flirt With Her Friends... Ever!

Do Not Flirt With Her Friends… Ever!

Flirting with your lady’s friend can be fun, but it’s best that you avoid doing it. Even if you think your flirting is harmless, your lady may think believe that there is a lot more to it than that. When you flirt with her friends, she may think that you feel like she doesn’t have enough to offer you. She may also feel like you flirting with her friends is an insult to her. She could consider it to be both rude and embarrassing. When you flirt with her friends, they may go back and tell her all the things that you have said, and convince her that you are up to no good.

Even if you are a natural flirt, learn to teach yourself not to flirt with her friends regardless of if she is around or not. If you do, you won’t have to worry about unnecessary arguments about the things you’ve said to her friends that she didn’t appreciate.

Don’t Talk About Things She Does that You Hate

Another thing you should avoid doing when you are talking to her friends is complaining about things that your woman does that you can’t stand. Sharing things that she does that you hate with her friends will lead to nothing but arguments between the two of you. Even if you tell her friends things in confidence, they will most definitely go to her with whatever you shared. They may tell you that you can trust them, but these ladies have a code between them that they haven’t (and won’t) let you in on.

Instead of talking about things that she does that you hate, try asking her friends their opinions on how you should handle certain things that she does that has the tendency to upset you. Make it seem like you are truly sincere about learning what to do without upsetting her. When you show that you care, her friends will be much more willing to keep that you went to them a secret. Women love when their opinions are valued, and asking her friends for help can be a great way to learn how to solve problems without causing chaos in the process.

Don’t Talk to One of Her Friends More Than Another

You, Her And Her Friends

You, Her And Her Friends

One big mistake that a lot of men make is talking to one of his lady’s friends more than other ones because he likes her personality better than the others. While you may think this is no big deal, it can actually be a huge deal with some women. When you favor one of her friends more than the others, it can lead your lady to believe that you may be harboring a secret crush on that particular friend. Even if you only like one of her friends, never let her know that you prefer that friend more than the others.

Be kind to all of her friends, but keep the conversations limited whether she is around or not. Many women like to make their friends jealous, and you can end up a pawn in a game if you’re not careful.

Getting to know her friends can be a great way to learn more about your lady, but you want to make sure that you go about it the right way. Don’t give her a reason to think that you are untrustworthy, or that you have more interest in her friends than you do with her.

Spend Time With Your Children.. While They Are Interested!

Spend Time With Your Children.. While They Are Interested!

Your kids are only going to be young once, and it’s easy to forget that in favor of relaxing instead. So many parents these days don’t take the time to really be active with their children, and that’s sad. If you’re one of those parents, then it’s time to get it into gear and start being active, because your kids and you are going to remember it forever if you don’t. Start making good memories now, so you can get all the time in with your kids that you can manage.

Plan Outdoor Activities

Include Your Children In Outdoor Activities

Anyone who has children knows that kids just can’t get enough of the great outdoors. As you get older, a lot of people start avoiding going outside at any cost. We get it – outside is hot, too sunny, dirty, and full of bugs. Despite all that, though, kids love it. Let them experience it! Start planning fun things to do outside. Not only do kids go nuts over them, but also they’re usually completely free, which is great in any parent’s book. Go ahead and head over to a local park for a fun game of catch or some soccer whenever the weather is nice. You can also go to basketball and tennis courts, or just set up a fun scavenger hunt for them. Your kids will thank you for it, and you’ll start feeling more active in no time.

Never Miss a Chance to Get Up

If you’re normally the kind of parent who stays on the couch while the kids play, now’s the time to change. Whenever you can, get up off that couch and play with them. It might be easier to sit and watch them, but keep in mind that they really want you to interact with them. Besides, once you start making a habit of it, playing with your kids all the time will seem like a walk in the park. You’re creating memories that will last a lifetime, and they’ll be much better than your kids remembering how you never got up off the couch. Even if they’re right next to you, you need to be up and moving. Especially if you’re trying to lose weight, this is the way to shed pounds like crazy and not have to work for it at all.

Relax and Have Fun

Soon They Will Go Out Without You

Soon They Will Go Out Without You

The most important thing of all is to relax and have fun with your kids. They love spending time with you, and you get to enjoy them even more as they grown up because of it. You’re going to build your bonds with them even more than you would have otherwise, too, and that’ll last their whole life long. On top of that, it’s a great way to wind down after a hard day of work. It’s almost like getting to go back to when you were younger, and you can really just let go and enjoy yourself. You don’t have to always have a complex regimen of things to do with them, you can just go on the fly and do whatever comes naturally. Sometimes it’s great to have a plan and to do things with your kids that have a schedule, but a bit of freedom now and then never hurt anybody. The kids will love getting to see this side of you, and it’ll help you lose weight the whole time. If you’re looking for a way to get fit without avoiding the family to do it, then this is how. Your friends will wonder what diet you’ve been on, but really you will have just been getting out there and enjoying being a parent and having fun with your children.

Online Shopping Has It's Pros & Cons

Online Shopping

If you have a credit or debit card, the entire vast and seemingly never-ending world of online shopping is at your fingertips. Online shopping might seem great at first (those deals, oh those deals!) and you might be able to find things online that you might not find in store, but it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows when it comes to this habit. With the good comes the bad, and with the ease and convenience of buying things online will come the regrets from shopping too much and the extra money and time wasted if something is sent incorrectly and has to be returned and corrected. Let’s take a look at the habit of online shopping and see if the good comes out above the bad so you can find out if it’s really worth it for you.

Easy Access

For those of us that don’t like to go to a store and be followed around by a well-meaning but no less obnoxious salesperson, online shopping offers the allure of shopping in peace and taking as long as you need to. For others, it’s a matter of not having a car to get out and go to a store to shop at, so still being able to access the same items in the catalog online is a lifesaver. If you asked 10 people why they like online shopping, it’s highly likely that at least 9 of them would tell you it’s because it’s easy.

Maybe TOO Easy

Don't Get Into The Bad Habit Of Overspending

Don’t Get Into The Bad Habit Of Overspending

If something’s easier for you to obtain, you’re probably going to try and get it even if you don’t necessarily need it. An impulse buy here and there is okay, but when it gets to the point where you’re shopping just for the sake of shopping then it’s probably a habit that you need to curb before it gets out of hand. This is definitely a con. Even if you have a steady job and the funds to afford the things you want to buy, it’s still a bad habit to get into. There’s no point in buying items you don’t need, especially when they’re just going to sit around your home or office unused and unappreciated. Just because it’s easy to purchase things online doesn’t mean you should, so don’t let the fact that it’s so easy be your only reason for choosing to buy.

Get Unique Items

There are things that you can get online that you can’t get in stores. Almost every retailer that has online ordering capability offers items online that they don’t offer in stores. Look at your favorite clothing store’s online catalog. Undoubtedly in amongst those rows with pictures of things you can buy there are a few things that say “Online Exclusive” or “Only Available Online” and sometimes at an electronics store there will be certain computers or accessories that come in special, web-exclusive colors that you can’t find in the store. It’s a way to get you to shop online and that alone draws a lot of people in. It’s a gateway, so make sure that you’re only ordering online when you have to so you can get these items and only when you really need them.

Pay a Ton for Them

Here’s the con to finding all of those unique items: they cost more. Usually if it’s an online exclusive you can bet there’s going to be a difference in price between the in-store item and the online one. That extra-special color of computer of sweater seems really nice in theory, but when you’re paying double the cost to get an online exclusive, is it really worth it? (Hint: the answer is probably no.) Online exclusives have a caveat and that’s what it is, so don’t let yourself be drawn into just any site that has online exclusives because they seem cool. The allure of a unique item is certainly a siren song, but it’s probably just as bad for you in the end.

It’s Addicting

Avoid Becoming A Shopaholic

Avoid Becoming A Shopaholic

Once you start, it’s hard to stop. It’s convenient, and many places that allow online orders offer not only incentives for online orders, they give you coupons when you place an order for the next time you place one. It’s a vicious cycle of seemingly good deals that will end up bankrupting you in the end if you’re not careful. Bankrupting you or leaving you with a home full of unneeded, unused items that you can’t return, and both are almost equally bad.
